A.      Last week I went to the theatre.

B.      They were talking loudly.

C.      I got very angry.

D.     They did not pay any attention.

E.      It’s none of your business.

A上星期我去看戏。B他们大声地讲话。C我非常生气。D他们却毫不理会。E不关你的事。

L2 Breakfast or lunch?

A.      I never got up early on Sundays.

A.      They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa.

D.     To their surprise, the precious parcel was full of stones and sand!

A.      After I had had lunch at a village at a village pub, I looked for my bag.

B.      --Did you have a good meal?—Yes,thank you,but I can’t pay the bill. I haven’t got my bag.,

C.      Int a few minutes he returned with my bag and gave it back to me.

A 我在一家乡村小九点吃过午饭后,就找我的包。B 您吃得好吗?很好,谢谢,但我付不了账,我的提包没有了。C 一会儿工夫他提着我的提包回来了,把它还给了我。

L19 Sold out

A.      The play may begin at any moment.

B.      It may have begun already.

C.      I hurried to the ticket office.--May I have two tickets please? –I’m sorry, we’ve sold out.

D.     Could I have those two tickets please?

E.      I might as well have them.

A 剧可能马上就要开演了。B 也许已经开演了呢。C我匆忙赶到售票处,问“我可以买两张票吗?”“对不起,票已售完。” D 我可以买那两张票吗?E 我还是买下的好。

L20 One man in a boat

A.      Fishing is my favourite sport.

B.      Instead of catching fish, they catch old boots and rubbish.

C.      After having spent whole mornings on the river, I always go home with an empty bag.

D.     You must give up fishing! It’s a waste of time.

E.      I am only interested in sitting in a boat and doing nothing at all.

L21 Mad or not?

C.      Sometimes I thnk this house will be knocked down by a passing plane.

D.     I have been offered a large sum of money to go away, but I am determined to stay here.

L22 A glass envelope

A.      My daughter, Jane, never dreamed of receiving a letter from a girl of her own age in Holland.

B.      She put a piece of paper with her name and address on it into a bottle.

E.      Letters will cost a little more, but they will certainly travel faster.

E.      It must be the only modern house in the district.

A 昨天我收到了姐姐的一封信。 B 如果她来了,她会感到非常惊奇的。C 这栋房子在我姐姐离开之前就已动工了。D 我在信中告诉她,她可以和我们住在一起。E 她肯定是这个地区唯一的一栋现代化住宅。

L24 It could be worse

A.      I had just lost 50 pounds and I felt very upset.

B.      The manager was sympathetic, but he could do nothing.

C.      He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door.

A. 我刚刚丢了50英镑,感到非常烦恼  B 经理深表同情,但却无能为力。
